About José E. Latour

josecasualheadshotJosé E. Latour was born in Havana, Cuba, and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of four. He graduated from Coral Gables High School and attended the University of Florida for both undergraduate and law studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the College of Journalism and Communications and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law.

Immediately upon graduating law school, he served as a U.S. Diplomatic and Consular Officer in Mexico and Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. He began private law practice in the U.S. in 1990, initially in the area of international real estate law, concentrating on land registration and title issues in Central America and the Caribbean. Subsequently, his focus became business immigration law, international trade, and consular law. The firm's Florida business rapidly expanded, resulting in the opening branch offices in Washington, D.C., Manila, Philippines, and Hong Kong. In 2003 Mr. Latour sold his immigration practice to his business partner and today remains Of Counsel to the firm. Today he focuses on complex immigration/visa matters and international business transactions through his solo practice, Latourlaw, P.A.. He is based in Florida and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, but assists clients on a worldwide basis.

Mr. Latour has continuously preserved an A/V rating by Martindale-Hubble since beginning private practice. He has received a number of awards and distinctions throughout his legal career from organizations including Inc. Magazine, Florida Trend Magazine, Cisco Systems and a number of other organizations and is widely published in a wide spectrum of publications on diverse law and non-law topics. Mr. Latour is a co-founder of One World Development Group International, Inc., a non-profit enterprise delivering vector control, disease-prevention, and community education/information services in sub-Saharan Africa. Through One World, infant malaria death rates have been dramatically reduced and the organization is currently expanding its malaria containment activities throughout the African continent.

He is a private pilot with complex and high performance ratings and a USCG-licensed 100 Ton Master Merchant Marine captain.  He is happiest when he is cooking for friends or on the water somewhere in the Caribbean.
